Museum of New Zealand- Te Papa Tongarewa
Te Papa is a must-visit when you come to Wellington as an Au Pair. It is New Zealand’s national museum, renowned for being bicultural, innovative, and a lot of fun. You can learn about Maori history, which I know sparks a lot of interest among Au Pairs as it is completely new and exciting.
Te Papa is divided into five areas: Art, History, Pacific, Māori, and Natural Environment. Their exhibitions are interactive, and they have dynamic events and education programmes, such as the Victoria University Institute of Modern Letters seminar every Monday, which is a great learning experience which I have participated in. They also have thriving retail stores, such as the cafe and the fantastic Te Papa gift store and children's gift store.
Te Papa is open 365 days a year (that’s every day!)
Hours: 10am–6pm (late night 9pm Thursday)
Free entry. Charges apply to some short-term exhibitions and activities.
Te Papa is extremely welcoming of foreign visitors- they want to make your visit truly memorable. Click here:
